negative space

Its hard to be really creative these days. But here are some old and new logos that will keep you inspired.. and hopefully get that pencil back in your hand. It’s hard to beat a clever use of negative space in a logo design. Here are some logos I enjoy that use white space well, along with the designers and agencies who created them.

And of course here are the references.

Mr Poulter... indie artist

Justin Poulter is a young illustrator, who is changing the scene of Cape Town, as we know it. His great use of line, negative space and contrasts makes one think of traditional line drawings only found in encyclopedia's today. Now i know that sounds like a insult, but it really is not. The skill and detail found in these illustrations, is the foundation needed to be able to bend the rules.

His subject matter is always fresh, slightly indie and cool but i gotta say there is not one piece that i don't want. I am definitely not the all knowing voice.. but what i do know, is that i can't help but not say a quiet 'oooohhhh' while glancing around the room, in hopes i could maybe throw it in my handbag. He's rough around the edges and slightly off center, but creativity often requires these 2 very things.

There is so much more that is going to happen in this space.

capture a frame

I have been thinking about life as a picture, a visual. Every movement being caught in a frame. Where everything in it is connected through space, colour and emotion. If there is one, photographer who can find the perfect visual in a frame, capture a moment in time.....Brett Rubin, can. Brett is a young dynamic photographer, who maybe a quiet person but screams with talent. Please take a look at his website.. that all i'm going to say. His work does the rest.

too tired..

It has been awhile since i wrote about something inspiring.. i'm just too tired. The problem with that i kind of said i would go out see what other great stuff people are doing, well honestly to inspire myself. Wow, so did not work. Okay i tired i went to an exihibition and a cult short movie, just with life weighing you down, i don't really care. Which got me thinking, there is inspiring and then there's the stuff that might actually effect your life. Change it some way. You know what i mean, when you walk away going 'gulp' i got go forward.

So while i take some time to be selfish i find the inspiration i need after heartbreak...i hope you find something that will inspire you. Even if its waking up next to the love one, and seeing the first morning smile..

I found myself smiling, which was a change from the waterfalls that were cascading before, someone just looked at me and smiled, winked and told me i would be happy. Its true i will. But enough about me, lets talk creativity. And i promise there will loads soon, i have some beauts up my sleeve.

creatively speaking

Hi.. just to give you some insight into what i will be doing? i have decided to create a blog, to give props to the best creative stuff.. It could be websites, could be graphic design, illustrations. I think its time creatives began going forward into the 21st century and embraced collaboration. We all know its a designers worst fear... thats right we sharing ideas. Well i am at least.
